More and more shops and businesses are disappearing from small communities. But with creativity, community spirit, and fresh ideas, vacant spaces can be transformed into lively places – creating real benefits for all residents.
Now it’s your turn:
The market town of Engelhartszell is calling for exciting and feasible ideas for the reuse of four buildings in the village. What could they become? Places for culture and encounters? Innovative workspaces or creative studios? Services for children, young people, or seniors? New businesses that enrich life in Engelhartszell?
Help us shape the future of this small but beautiful town on the Danube by turning vacancies into vibrant spaces. Whether your idea is small or big – the important thing is that it brings energy to the village, strengthens the community, and makes Engelhartszell more attractive.
These buildings are waiting for new uses:
Municipal Building – Upper Floor (2nd Floor)
Located in the heart of the town, the vacant upper floor covers around 120 m² and is equipped with restrooms, showers, and a kitchen. The rooms are currently only accessible via stairs (no elevator).
Former Elementary School – Upper Floor
The upper floor offers about 350 m² of space with restrooms available. Access is via stairs only. The local kindergarten is located on the ground floor, opening up possibilities for synergies.
Former Courthouse – Ground Floor (formerly Post Delivery Base)
The ground floor of the former courthouse provides approx. 155 m² of vacant space. It is fully accessible at ground level and includes restrooms. In front of the building, there is an open area that could be used as parking space.
Former Trappist Monastery – Convent
The convent is located at the rear of the building, next to the collegiate church. It includes around 400 m², formerly used as guest rooms and monks’ cells. Any future use must be in line with the interests of the diocese as well as the local businesses: brewery, liqueur production, monastery shop, and monastery café.
